Obwohl Goldberry in "The Lord of the Rings" explizit erklärt "Tom Bombadil is the Master. No one has ever caught old Tom walking in the forest, wading the the water, leaping of the hill-tops under light and shadow. He has no fear. Tom Bombadil is Master", gibt es ein ganzes Gedicht ("The Adventures of Tom Bombadil") darüber wie eben dies passiert und Tom nacheinander von Goldberry, Old Man Willow, Dachsen, Vögeln, Fischen und einem Barrow-Wight gefangen oder geärgert wird.
